Rules & Regulations

Working together with parents for the smooth running of school.

Circulars

Circulars go home regularly with timings, exam dates, Parent-Teacher Meetings, events, activities and trips. For siblings, the circular is given to the eldest child; special circulars may be handed to the person collecting the child.

Please keep circulars in a folder for reference. For younger children they are stapled in the diary. Signing the diary daily ensures you receive every circular and stay up to date with your child’s progress.

Punctuality

School starts at 7:50 am for Classes Transition to X. Pupils arriving after 7:55 am will be let in but charged a late fine of Rs 100 to Rs 200. Children arriving after 8:20 am will be sent back.

Attendance & leave

Regular attendance is essential. When a child misses school, teachers cannot be expected to repeat missed lessons.

  • For a minor illness, inform the school office and send the child’s bag by 9:30 am for homework and classwork; collect it from the gate at home time.
  • Send a written application when the child returns.
  • Prolonged illness requires a medical certificate; for infectious diseases, a doctor must certify that the contagious period is over.
  • Longer leave for holidays, weddings or personal matters must be approved in writing in advance.
  • For Transition to Class IV, parents are responsible for copying missed work from the diaries; senior students are responsible for their own missed work.
Appointments

Please contact the school office whenever you would like to meet a teacher or the management, and avoid discussing concerns in front of your child. Academic and personal matters should be discussed only with the relevant member of management, not the receptionist.

Teachers are not allowed to share their phone numbers with parents. Appointments are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, between 8:45 am and 1:30 pm.

Uniform & appearance
  • The uniform is available at school; students must come neatly dressed in it.
  • Girls may wear only simple ear studs; make-up and fancy hair accessories are not allowed. Long hair must be tied back with red or black bands.
  • Boys may not wear chains, lockets or rings. Hair must be short, well groomed and off the collar; a barber visits twice a month and haircuts are charged.
  • Wrist watches are allowed from Class IV; please avoid expensive watches, as the school is not responsible for valuables.
Personal hygiene
  • Children must come to school in clean clothes, with clipped nails.
  • The school carries out regular hygiene checks.
  • Head lice is a serious health concern; a child must stay home until completely clear.
Early pick-up, dispersal & staying back
  • Inform the office in advance, in writing or by phone, if a child is to be collected during school hours; the person collecting must sign an early pick-up slip.
  • Please do not engage teachers in conversation at dispersal, as they are looking after the children.
  • If a new driver, ayah or other person will collect a child, written permission from the parent is required.
  • For rehearsals and practice, pupils may need to stay back and bring a packed lunch clearly marked with their name and class.
Discipline

Our children are generally well behaved and take responsibility for their actions. A fine is charged for deliberate damage to school property.

  • When rules are broken or work is incomplete, the teacher speaks with the student, who serves detention during recess and games and may stay back after school to finish work.
  • Serious misconduct is reported to parents and a yellow warning card is issued.
  • In-house suspension under academic coordinators follows, with an orange card and exclusion from games and activities.
  • After suspension the student is on probation, with behaviour and performance closely monitored.
  • If behaviour does not improve, the student is suspended for a set number of days, with a warning letter and a red card.
  • Any further indiscipline after three warnings may lead to expulsion, decided by the Principal with the faculty.

Parents are informed at every step and may be called in for a meeting at any stage.

Fees, first aid & emergencies
  • Late payment charges apply if fees are not paid by the due date.
  • PSI can handle minor health problems such as colds, fevers, bruises and cuts; parents are contacted immediately in an emergency.
  • Please treat minor injuries at home so the child does not need the nurse early in the day.
  • A crisis management team of senior students and teachers plans for emergencies such as fire or earthquake, and evacuation drills are held at random.
General

Please make sure that:

  • Your child does not bring toys, sweets, chips, soft drinks, chewing gum, fancy stationery, magazines or cash to school.
  • Mobile phones and other electronic devices are not brought to school; they will be confiscated.
  • Homework diaries and tests are signed regularly, and test preparation is thorough.
  • Textbooks are kept free of notes or tick marks when helping at home.
  • Corrections and work missed during absences are completed, and borrowed copybooks are returned the same day.
  • Messages for the school office are passed on well before dispersal time.

Thank you for your cooperation

Together we keep PSI running smoothly for every child.
